Eagles Haunt by Grant Berg

Eagles Haunt is a stunning log home on the shores of Lac La Biche Lake, it is about a mile away from where my Grandparents, the Stratton’ s settled and raised their 8 children.  My mom lived at Eagles Haunt for a number of years and my Uncle Charlie still lives there.

Between the house and the steep bank down to the lake are amazing tall spruce trees reaching up to touch the eagles.

Over time the trees are dying off but those that remain standing are breathtaking against the view of the lake.  For a time when I was quite young 2-4 years old I lived in the area along the lake.  I don’t have many memories from that time but love hearing the stories. When I am there I do feel a beautiful connection to the lake and the land.  This piece is the smallest of the four recently completed sculptures but I love it’s character, the base originally was about 1/3 larger but a natural fault in the stone reduced it’s size quite early in the process.  I love working to capture the beauty and form of these wonderful places as seen through my eyes as I see them.
